Summary: This poster depicts a woman who is flexing and appears tough and capable of grueling work. These posters were produced and distributed to promote and encourage the women workforce while men were off fighting in WW11.
Significance: The significance of this primary source is that it represents how women became highly involved in the war effort as well and did their part in maintaining nationalism an aid in any way they could. It shows the determination of women and the reliance the nation had on them to help run everything. furthermore, it demonstrates the improved opportunities were given like the Fair Employment practices commission. However when the war is over this will prove to be less effective because the nation develops a "leave it to beaver" attitude and women take a step back, staying in the household instead of finding employment outside the house. Summary: This document gave the ideal use for the pact, being that it was so that America could still feel like they were isolated- even though he knew that it would most likely end with America getting involved in another world war. Also because America thought that WWI was caused by an alliance involving Germany we were very resistant in signing anything involving an alliance treaty. Some people thought signing this would bring us closer to the League of Nations. The outcome of the treaty resulted in two, either this alliance would be used against us and result in another war or this alliance would solemnly be used to aid one another involving no war like scenarios.
Significance: This was pertinent in deciding America's future because this treaty could either provide us a connection through trade and isolate us from war or it could start an entire new war. All America wanted was to have equal peace and equality as a whole throughout the world and so we took a risk in striving for this overall ideal world. Student: Riley R. |
Summary: This article is about how Hollywood was a prime Communist spot and was constantly targeting workers in Hollywood. They continually interviewed and questioned workers on Communism and its ideals. Many answered to their satisfactory, but others felt that demanding an answer meant infringement on their rights and went against the first amendment's freedom of speech. Although looking back years later, researchers have found that whatever Hollywood have shown that any Communist activities was for the viewers enjoyment and personal economic gain.
Significance: This is significant because it gives an example of how social and culture views aren't as tied to politics as one thinks because the only thing that is truly important is appealing to society and making profits from the people. In addition to that, it shows that the "ones on top" only care about the fastest ways to make money, not being "a good patriot". Student: Priscilla L. |
Summary: This images Features the words "Loose Lips might sink ships" and a sinking boat that is presumably American. Posters like this would likely have been posted in any public places throughout the United States warning that being unaware of what they are saying could potential bring harm to soldiers and war progress as a whole. With the entire country rallying behind the war effort, people were extremely conscious of their actions such as recycling rubber and steel, or eating only what they needed and watching the information the could unknowingly leak was bother vital step to being helpful instead of hurtful.
Significance: The reason that this poster resonates with the public so well is because many Japanese-Americans were put in internment camps for the same reason. People feared that the axis powers were going to gain insight that could be detrimental to the success of the Allies if people were careless in the information that they were sharing. It could almost reach the point of paranoia but most of the time was a legitimate concern. Student: Melissa H. |
